Sanmu Construction (3EYES Homes Ltd) was established in March 2011. Its founder and director, Li Shuang (Sean Li), graduated in civil engineering in New Zealand and has 19 years of local construction experience. 2021 marked the company’s tenth year.

Through a decade of tireless effort by all its employees, Sanmu Construction stood out among the construction companies nominated and earned the title of Construction Company of the Year in the 2021 Property and Construction Industry Honours. That same year, its West Green project, jointly completed by the company’s interior design and fit-out, management and construction teams, also won the residential construction category at the 2021 NZIBES Building Excellence Awards.

A decade of dedication, a brand built on expertise

Over the past decade, guided by its clear vision of “winning trust through quality, building homes with integrity” and its deeply held philosophy of “staying true to our original purpose to see things through”, Sanmu Construction has evolved from a small company operating on a foundation-only model towards a comprehensive service with in-house construction management, full-contract and main-contractor delivery, becoming one of New Zealand’s most professional construction teams.

As a socially responsible company, Sanmu Construction has always regarded supporting the development of New Zealand’s construction industry as its responsibility. It has accumulated extensive experience and an excellent reputation across property-related fields including subdivision and land development, residential construction, interior fit-outs and design, commercial construction and project management. Its workforce has grown from an initial 5 employees to 50, and its projects span residential and commercial property, with capacity for 150 to 200 units a year.

Reflecting on the company’s achievements, Sean Li says: “This is the result of continually gaining experience and gathering resources as the company develops, then bringing them together and making adjustments.” He adds: “We have gradually grown into a large construction team with a significant presence in the New Zealand market. We are delighted to see these efforts bear fruit, because the results have been hard-earned.”

A company’s future depends on a united team

An outstanding team delivers outstanding results.

In construction, Sanmu Construction holds accreditation from both MB (Registered Master Builders) and CB (New Zealand Certified Builders Association). It offers a range of construction services, from rebuilds to new homes, tailored to each client’s individual needs.

Unlike the outsourced construction crews commonly used in New Zealand, all Sanmu Construction employees have completed Site Safe training and hold Site Safe certification. Its construction team also holds LBP (Licensed Building Practitioner) registration.

At Sanmu Construction’s project sites, designated staff carry out regular supervision and inspections. Their detailed records cover weekly and daily construction activity, ensuring that progress and quality can be monitored and controlled in real time.

Its skilled and comprehensive in-house team enables Sanmu Construction to work with clients through a meticulous, professional management process from start to finish, developing optimal solutions that deliver exceptional value. This allows it to undertake the most demanding construction work, deliver seemingly impossible tasks on time, keep construction costs under the greatest possible control and help clients maximise the return on their investment.

A clear strategic position and a comprehensive service

Alongside carefully building his team, identifying the right strategic direction is another of Sean Li’s secrets to success.

“In the ten years since we established the company, New Zealand’s property sector has gradually shifted from a focus on standalone houses to higher-density housing. This also represents a transformation of the entire construction industry.” Sean believes this trend benefits New Zealanders. Property development is also moving from individual developers working alone towards teams working together.

Sean believes Auckland’s current trend towards medium- and high-density housing means New Zealand’s construction industry will become more specialised and standardised. Starting next year, Sanmu Construction also plans to fully integrate, refine and strengthen its comprehensive service. “This is a new and inevitable trend facing New Zealand’s construction industry,” he says.

Looking ahead, Sean hopes Sanmu Construction can consolidate its overall organisational structure, refine more details and expand into more sectors to make its transformation smoother. He says this means the company still has a long road ahead, making it all the more important to pursue stability, unity, comprehensive capability and specialisation.

“There is no need to carry a stone monument to your achievements; the words of those you meet along the way are monuments enough.” With a diligent, rigorous and practical approach, and a commitment to putting care into every building, Sanmu Construction has drawn on a decade of accumulated experience to continue delivering results that satisfy every client.
