Supporting the Diversity Group
At the meeting, Deputy Mayor Desley particularly praised the Diversity Group initiated by the New Zealand Chinese Building Industry Association (NZCBIA). This important initiative for the multicultural community deeply inspired her.
Gender balance has yet to be achieved in New Zealand’s construction industry. Some women struggle to have their contributions recognised and face even greater difficulties advancing their careers. NZCBIA therefore called for the establishment of the Diversity Group, encouraging people to address issues such as gender imbalance and support greater diversity in the industry.
Deputy Mayor Desley strongly agreed. She expressed her full support for the organisation and looked forward to it making an even greater contribution to diversity and inclusion in the community.

Deputy Mayor supports NZIBES
The New Zealand International Building Expo and Summit (NZIBES) will take place from 11 August to 12. As one of the most influential annual events in New Zealand’s construction and property sectors, the expo offers overseas and local construction and property businesses, along with industry professionals, a distinctive and efficient platform for networking. It has consistently attracted attention from people across the industry, benefiting a growing number of businesses and individuals.

On learning about the event, Desley immediately expressed her enthusiastic support and warmly offered her best wishes for the expo. Her interest and support represent both a strong endorsement of the Chinese building industry association and its many members, and tremendous encouragement for the development of the industry as a whole.
Visiting Shundi’s development project
Towards the end of the meeting, Desley also visited Shundi’s development project and held important discussions with project leader Jack Hu and his team. She spoke highly of the project, describing it as distinctive and noting that it had attracted considerable public attention in the community. Offering encouragement and recognition, Desley praised Jack and his team and looked forward to Shundi making further contributions to the community.

The meeting clearly demonstrated Desley Simpson’s care for the community and her commitment to engagement. Her high praise for the contributions of Unicom and Shundi further highlighted her strong support for the Chinese community.
Under her leadership, we look forward to further collaboration and shared development to help the community prosper and progress. We believe that, through the combined efforts of everyone involved, our city will shine even more brightly.
